I came across an game online today created with partnerships between Unicef, Global Kid Leaders, and an online game design company, Gamelab.
The game is Ayiti: The Cost of Life and simulates the struggles of a family to survive in a life of poverty. This experience, based on the struggles of families in rural Haiti, is a game that allows you to make the educational, employment, and purchasing decisions for a family while trying to earn money, create educational opportunities, keep healthy, and maintain happiness.
Students are experiencing the struggles and decision making of a family faced with poverty. There are opportunities for discussion and enhanced understanding. This is an example of a game that is played with purpose.
